Fishing Report 8/20/26

Conditions in Vermont have been improving slowly but surely. We’re starting to see some cooler nights, which will eventually bring some relief to the high water temps in most of the state's larger rivers. Small stream fishing has remained productive over the last few weeks, terrestrials and other dry fly patterns have been the key to success. If you do intend to target trout, doing some old school blue lining is the best option this time of year! 

Inland lakes and ponds have been productive for bass, pike and other warm water species, however getting at them early has remained a consistent way to find fish reliably.  Throwing poppers and large terrestrials has been our favorite way of fishing as of late. As things continue to cool off the bass will likely be more keen to stay in more accessible water, extending the window of feeding opportunities.

As always, be sure to keep an eye on temps and flows before heading out, and always carry a thermometer. Tight Lines!
