Fishing Report

Thanks to some much needed rainstorms within the last week we have seen an increase water level especially in the southern reaches of Vermont. With this water comes a renewed sense of hope for a good fall trout season and an overall sense of optimism moving forward. We were able to take advantage of these cooler temps and high water last week and get into some trout for the first time in a while. Additionally this rain gave the small stream fishing a good boost as several streams we checked had temperatures reading in the low 60’s. This made for some killer Brook Trout fishing in some of Vermonts classic freestone streams. Terrestrial flies have been the name of the game on sunnier days in the small streams and soft hackles and nymphs have been bringing trout to the net in higher flows. As always make sure to be aware of the conditions when fishing. Checking temps is highly important this time of year, as the water temp can fluctuate rather quickly on these hot August days.
